Emberfall Chronicle: Building Your First Party

Emberfall Chronicle gives you a lot of freedom early, and that freedom can trip up new players. I stalled hard around the third chapter before I understood how the stagger system actually wanted me to fight.

The short version: you don't win by hitting hard, you win by timing your big hits to when an enemy is staggered. That means you want at least one character whose job is to build up stagger, even if their damage looks unimpressive on paper.

Pick a healer early and stick with them so their skills level up alongside the party. Swapping healers late means re-levelling abilities you'll badly need for boss fights. I learned that the hard way after benching my starter.

Don't skip side quests, either. A couple of them hand you gear that trivialises the mid-game spike. The game won't tell you which ones, so just do the optional content as you go — it's rarely a waste.

By the time you've got a staggerer, a reliable healer, and one heavy hitter, the difficulty curve smooths right out and you can start experimenting with the stranger builds.
